Paint A Poppy

Ali Barnes, centre volunteer and member of the management committee has created sixty-five clay poppies, one for each name on the Brandon WW1 memorial.  In fact each poppy has been inscribed with the name of one of the men.  Ali will be holding a painting session at Brandon Heritage Centre on the 30th June and 1st July for anyone to pop in and “paint a poppy”.  Paints and brushes will be supplied, so you just need to turn up!  This is a free event, suitable for all ages and abilities.

This is the start of a very exciting project.  one that will culminate with the finished clay poppies being installed on the town’s cemetery gates in November to coincide with the nation’s commemoration of the Armistice Centenary.

Anyone wishing to reserve a particular named poppy from the list of WW1 soldiers being commemorated, please contact Ali Barnes (07595 323425 or tillerlass@gmail.com).  Named poppies will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  The centre will also be selling some small handmade clay poppy brooches and fridge magnets on the day, with proceeds going directly to the Heritage Centre.  We may even have a ‘WW1 soldier’ in attendance on the Saturday, so you can ask him questions about Brandon during the war.
