at the bottom of London Road, next to Alf Cunningham\u2019s garage.\u00a0 Or the real \u201cin\u201d place was\u00a0the Pine Vista on the Mundford Road, next to &#8220;Bish&#8221; Beckhams garage.\u00a0 Teenagers went to play music on the juke box, meet friends and drink a coke.\u00a0 All very innocent, but I wasn\u2019t allowed to go in.\u00a0 My mum thought it was a den of iniquity.\u00a0 So I went to Mrs Sharp\u2019s caf\u00e9 in Bury St Edmunds\u00a0instead. \u00a0Pat Lister and I would go on the bus and meet up with people in the caf\u00e9.\u00a0 My mum didn\u2019t say anything about going in Bury, I don\u2019t suppose it dawned on her, nor did she say anything about standing outside the Pine Vista.\u00a0 So I actually never quite disobeyed orders when I lurked about outside behind the garage, until whoever I was meeting saw I was there.<\/p>\n<p>I remember mum, with nana in tow, striding down over the bridge to find me when I should have been at the fair.\u00a0\u00a0I saw them coming from the station, so I whipped round the back of the station and over the bridge.\u00a0 When I saw them flash down the Mundford road I whipped back to the Ram meadow.<\/p>\n<p>Two boys from Bury used to bike over to see me and Pat and like many people, we walked up the Mundford or Weeting road and round Peppers Hill.\u00a0 The big problem was PC Fox from Weeting.\u00a0 He appeared as if by magic at the mere hint of a courting couple.\u00a0 His bike must have had radar, been jet propelled and had a silencer.\u00a0 Many a tender moment has been spoiled by &#8220;Foxy&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0I reckon he was more effective than the pill!<\/p>\n<p>I hope some people can relate to the story of PC Fox.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cherry Rogers remembers courting in the 1950s &#8230;
