Way back in 1991 Brandon Heritage Centre opened its doors to its first visitor.\u00a0 However the hard work of getting the centre in place took many years, even in the 1970s discussions were being had about putting in place a facility to bring together and highlight Brandon’s heritage.\u00a0 It was only through the vision and determination of those Brandon people that we have our wonderful building filled with Brandon artifacts.\u00a0 In the 1990s six people founded the centre – Mr Harvey Adam, Mr David Bimson, Mr John Gilbert, Mrs Gwen Luker, Mr David Pocock and Mr Harry Rumsey.\u00a0 Harvey Adam has a room at the centre named in his memory.\u00a0 Now we have two ‘David’ chairs in memory of messrs. Bimson and Pocock.<\/p>\n\n
This summer, Peter Ridgewell (Brandon Town Councillor) popped into the centre with two worn out and weather beaten chairs asking if we wanted them for the centre.\u00a0 Initially, thoughts crossed our mind that these were only good for the dump but with slight apprehension we accepted the gift.\u00a0 Then a call went out to our volunteer force to sand them down and bring them back to some sort of former glory.\u00a0 Barry Spencer stepped forward, took them home and returned them in such a fine state that we still cannot believe these are the same chairs.\u00a0 Mark Skinner was next, with a donation of two plaques which he attached to the chairs.\u00a0 This is such a fitting tribute to the two David’s, who are sadly no longer with us.\u00a0 A small token of our thanks to them.\u00a0 Also, thank you to Peter Ridgewell, Barry Spencer and Mark Skinner.<\/p>\n
