“Blooming Barrows”
Brandon Heritage Centre was invited to take part in the ‘Blooming Barrows’ contest, run by P&R Garden Supplies. The theme was the Radio 4 show, Desert Island Discs, so the barrow could be decorated to anything related to pop music, books, or even a desert island. Brandon Heritage Centre went with a ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band’ theme in recognition of The Beatles releasing the album cover 50 years ago.
So for those of you familiar with the album cover, you will know it features The Beatles alongside many other famous faces, such as Marilyn Monroe, Oscar Wilde, Mae West and many many others. Our version saw The Fab Four alongside many Brandon faces from the past – some famous and others less so. We are thankful to the community for offering some photos and we managed to use them all.
The standard of planting was high and we are very happy to say we got joint-second place in the Competitor’s voting! Thank you to all who voted. We think it was our multi-coloured swirling bee windmill that gained us quite a few votes!
