GOOD NEWS … £4,000 grant awarded to Brandon Heritage Centre

Tesco Bags of Help

Brandon Heritage Centre is delighted to announce that, following the public vote in Brandon’s Tesco throughout September and October, the centre has been awarded a grant of £4,000. The centre’s project, ‘New flint and forest exhibits’, finished first in the vote.

The money for the grant is raised from the sale of carrier bags in Tesco stores, which is then administered by Groundwork UK, via Tesco Bags of Help, to fund local community projects. Brandon Heritage Centre has earmarked their grant for the purchase and installation of new audio/visual panels to narrate the story of flint and forest, along with new display cases.

Tim Kent, Chairman of the Brandon Heritage Centre Trust said,

“Personally, I am over the moon, as this is the last piece of the current funding jigsaw secured and this means we will be able to honour our ambitious plans for the centre. The significant private donation of £10,000 already received, Councillor Lukaniuk’s locality grant of £1,000 to follow shortly, this support from Tesco and of course our local Tesco Brandon Shopping Supporters, has made all the difference and has made the proposed work possible. This is all about team work and volunteering, as well as local networking, and I hope we can maintain this momentum for many years to come.”

Brandon Heritage Centre is very grateful to the community for their continued support, especially to all those who voted for us. In these times of austerity, when many good causes are vying for funding, it is heart-warming to know our vision for the centre has received the backing of Brandon people. We would also like to thank Lianne Spooner, from Brandon’s Tesco, who encouraged us to apply. From all the volunteers at the centre, we thank you all.
